Social Sciences Distinguished Teaching Award

Awarded only to those who clearly excel in their undergraduate or graduate teaching activities.

Nominations of potential recipients can be made by the Associate Deans or Assistant Dean and Heads of Departments in the Faculty of Social Sciences. Nominations may be based on such criteria as student evaluations and other measures of teaching effectiveness, including the general reputation enjoyed by the teacher, assessment based Heads' or peers' visits to classes, awards, course outlines and student comments. Graduate teaching and supervision may also form part of the assessment, as can various measures of innovative teaching, including the development, testing and application of new teaching methodologies. Where appropriate (e.g., for more senior faculty members) emphasis will also be given to evidence of broad and/or sustained contributions to teaching excellence.
