Great teachers communicate effectively with students. How do you ensure that content is presented and communicated clearly?

I try to make all relevant course material available on my web site with detailed notes that can be downloaded and studied at leisure outside of class time. Class time is primarily spent on discussion (if the class size is sufficiently small), interpretation, applications, implications and underlying concepts. I ask students to prepare by reading before class so that we can focus on the presentation of key aspects of the topic and not waste time note-taking or reviewing. Inviting participation and encouraging students to share their ideas in class helps to engage them in the material. To communicate clearly, I focus on concepts and relevant examples rather than details. Genuine enthusiasm for the topic also helps!
