Great teachers involve their students meaningfully in the course. How do you engage your students?

I try and make the information presented relevant and appropriate to the level of training. With medical students and residents I try to link basic science information with clinically relevant interesting cases. I also try my best to make my sessions as interactive as possible. Finally, I put myself in the shoes of the students and ask the following questions; is this important information? How will this information be used in the future? How will I remember this information? After I go through these questions I then try and correct any deficiencies. If I feel I have trouble doing this I will often ask a student, that is more experienced than those I am to teach, to review what I am going to present and get their feed back and then again revise as needed.
